Fail and Prevail: How failure can be the ultimate catalyst for success

Drop it Like it's Hot Not! Failure does not spell the end!

What do Anna Wintour and JK Rowling have in common?  Apart from being publishing powerhouses, they have all plunged to the deepest, darkest depths of failure and have managed to emerge from those depths smelling of roses.
The fashion firecracker

JK Rowling was fired from her secretarial job for working on Harry Potter during office hours and subsequently went on to become one of the most successful authors of all time. Anna Wintour was fired from her magazine job as a Junior Fashion Editor only to eventually become the most powerful figure in magazine publishing. Of her setback, she said, ‘I recommend you all get fired. It’s a great experience.’

Where there are dark clouds, there is always the tiny glimmer of silver lining. It’s time to turn all of your failures into a dramatic boost for your motivation and focus. We can’t always control every miniscule detail of our lives. We won’t always accomplish anything worthwhile on the very first attempt and it just becomes a case of trial and error. Just like everything else, the more practise you get by seeing what works and what doesn’t, the better you’ll get. Each lesson becomes a step closer to the desired result.

VENT OUT YOUR FRUSTRATIONS
The first step is to allow yourself to vent out your frustrations, whether that is screaming super-loud into a pillow or out of your window.  Better in than out, they say and this is especially true.

TAKE A DETOUR
Instead of thinking about the worst case scenario, banish those ‘Oh my God, what am I going to do now’ thoughts and think about the alternative path which may lead to the desired result. After a long process of trial and error, we develop a healthy and appreciative attitude towards success as we remember that long and gruelling process it took to get to that high point.

POSITIVE ATTITUDE
Maintaining a wave of optimism is the ultimate key to success. Keep reaffirming that you are capable of achieving anything!

DON’T BE AFRAID
You must learn to ignore the idea that failure is bad -- the only thing that is bad is the failure to learn from mistakes.

BURN AND LEARN
Above all, if you have never received a job rejection, missed out on a place on the sports team or been unsuccessful in getting that coveted university place then how will you ever know what adversity feels like? You can actually learn a huge amount about yourself and learn a lot of lesson that you would never learn in the classroom.

While there may be silver linings, there are no silver platters. In denying ourselves the experience of failure, we may be stopping ourselves from fully appreciating success in its purest form.
